Meet Sharnkia – winner of our Little Model Competition!
With a passion for all things dance and with a beautiful, confident and personality, it was a delight getting to know Sharnika and her love of orangutans!
What is the best thing that has happened to you this year?
The best thing that has happened this year is winning the competition for the Little Mag
Very exciting! – what did you do when you found out?
I couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends!
Tell me something interesting about yourself, that not many people know.
That I completed my one kilometre swim when I was 7 years old.
I believe you have a love of Orangutuans is that correct?
I love orangutans because they are cute and look very cuddly
What made you take the leap and have a go at modelling / acting?
I started modelling because I was encouraged to by the kinder photographer who told mum I was very photogenic and took direction well.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up I want to be a doctor of medicine.
What is your favourite thing to wear that you will never throw out?
I will never throw out my first tutu.
Can you tell us a little bit about what you have been up to lately, in terms of photo shoots or acting?
I have just had a photoshoot for a bridal magazine and I have another one next week for studio 7 dancewear. My favourite photoshoot so far in my career has been a shoot with Jordan Matter from America! The photos made it into his book ‘Born to Dance’.
Fantastic! Did you get a copy of the book?
Yes I did!
What is your favourite thing to do in Summer?
In summer I love to swim and stand up paddle board.
Do you remember the very first job you did, and how did it make you feel?
The very first job I did was a target TV ad i was excited and nervous at the same time. I do remember the lunch we had as we had prawns which I loved.
Are you with a talent agency, if so who, and how long have you been with them?
I was with Munchkins agency for 6 years and I am now with Giant Junior.
Have you done any workshops, like runway or acting workshops before? How do you think it has helped you gain confidence and learn more about the industry?
I was lucky to be part of VAMFF (Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival) last year and model for Seed and Marlo. I really enjoyed learning how to walk on the runway.
Do you follow any models or actors that you admire on social media, if so who, and why are they the best?
I love Meika Woollard I think she is pretty and she has the supermodel look.
Do you have any special talents, play any instruments or play sports?
I am a dancer that dancers at Dance Extreme Performing Arts Studio, Jason Coleman Ministry of Dance and Dance Prescription. I love dancing and competing in ballet, lyrical, jazz, contemporary and neo classical. I have been lucky enough to travel to Sydney and Canberra with Dr Lisa Ellis Dance Prescription to help assist at workshops.
If you were to get the coolest modeling or acting job tomorrow, what would it be doing, who for, and why?
My dream has been since I was 4 to see myself on the side of a bus for Country Road.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about getting involved in doing modeling or acting but may think - I’m too shy or I don’t know what to do, I don’t have any experience.
The advise I would give someone who was starting modelling is to be yourself and have fun.
If you had one wish what would it be?
To travel around the world modelling and dancing.
